Convertible Tops and Upholstery for Northwest Indiana
For a lot of Northwest Indiana drivers, Alsip is closer than it sounds. Don's Auto Interiors & Tops is at 11937 S. Cicero Ave, a straightforward drive from Hammond, Munster, Highland, and the rest of Lake County via I-80/94 and the Tri-State. We've served drivers, boaters, and businesses on both sides of the state line since 1977.
Convertibles from the Region
Indiana convertible owners deal with the same lake-effect weather we do: hot summer sun, cold winters, and road salt. We see the same problems: shrunken tops, cloudy or separated rear windows, leaks at the side glass, and power tops that don't go up and down smoothly.
What we do:
- Full convertible top replacement in vinyl or cloth, with a check of pads, cables, seals, and frame adjustment (details)
- Rear window replacement and rebonding
- Hydraulic and power top repair (details)
- Experience with Mustangs, Corvettes, Miatas, BMWs, and classics
Top installations take 8 to 12 hours of shop time, so plan a drop-off and pickup. Sending photos first lets us quote the job and have parts ready before you make the drive.
Boaters: Lake Michigan and inland lakes
Northwest Indiana has a big boating community, from Lake Michigan harbors along the Indiana shoreline to inland lakes like Cedar Lake and Wolf Lake. Sun, water, and winter storage are hard on boat interiors and canvas. We handle:
- Boat seat and cushion reupholstery in marine-grade vinyl
- Foam replacement for waterlogged seats
- Wood seat-base repair and replacement
- Marine carpet
- Custom covers, bimini tops, mooring covers, and jet ski covers
- Canvas repair, including snaps, zippers, windows, and seams
Bring removable cushions and canvas in after haul-out and they'll be ready for spring. See boat upholstery and boat covers and canvas.
Industry, fleets, and equipment
Northwest Indiana runs on industry and logistics, and that means work trucks, semis, forklifts, and heavy equipment with seats that wear out. We repair and replace fleet and equipment seats, including frame repair and welding, plus carpet and vinyl mats and custom equipment covers. B2B partners receive discounted rates. See fleet and equipment seat repair and commercial upholstery.
Interiors and headliners
Sagging headliners, torn driver's seats, worn carpet, and full classic interiors: we do it all in the same shop as the tops. See auto upholstery and headliner replacement.
Making the trip from Indiana
- Route: I-80/94 west to the Tri-State (I-294), then to Cicero Avenue. Check traffic first.
- Hours: Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Central, the same time zone as Lake County.
- Estimates: free, and we can quote from photos.
- Bring just the piece when you can: boat cushions, motorcycle seats, equipment seats, and canvas can come without the vehicle.
Common questions from Indiana customers
Do I need to bring the whole boat? Usually not. Removable seats, cushions, and canvas can be dropped off on their own. For covers that need to be fitted to the hull, call us to plan it.
Can you quote fleet work without seeing every unit? Yes. Send a photo of each seat and the vehicle or equipment type, and we'll put together an estimate. Batching several units back to back cuts down on trips and downtime.
What about classic cars? We do full custom and classic interiors as well as tops. If you're restoring a car, we can talk through the whole interior and top together so it's done in one plan.
Is there anything I should do before driving over? Send photos first. A quick look lets us confirm what you need and schedule enough time, so you're not making the trip twice.
