Convertible Tops and Upholstery for Chicago Drivers
Don's Auto Interiors & Tops sits just southwest of the city in Alsip, at 11937 S. Cicero Ave. Since 1977, Chicago drivers have been heading down Cicero Avenue to us for convertible tops and interiors, and the city has always been a big part of our business. That includes residents of the South Side neighborhoods next door, North Side owners with weekend convertibles, and city businesses with worn seating.
What Chicago customers bring us
Convertibles that live on the street
Owning a convertible in the city means street parking, tight garages, and a top that's exposed to more than weather. We regularly see cut or slashed tops, broken rear windows, and tops damaged by car washes or falling debris. Some of these can be repaired. Others need a new top. We'll tell you which, and if it's an insurance claim, we'll give you a written estimate. Learn more about convertible top repair and replacement.
Winter-stored convertibles
Plenty of city convertibles spend the winter in storage and come out in April. That's when owners find a cloudy rear window, a shrunken top, or a leak from last fall. If that sounds familiar, book before spring. Top installations take 8 to 12 hours of shop time, and the spring calendar fills fast.
Sagging headliners and worn seats
City driving is stop-and-go, in-and-out driving, and driver's seat bolsters take a beating. Cars parked in the summer sun also get sagging headliners sooner. We repair individual seat panels, recover full seats, and replace headliners. See auto upholstery and headliner replacement.
Boats from the city's harbors
Chicago boaters bring us cushions, seats, and canvas, especially in the off-season after haul-out. Removable cushions and covers can be dropped off at the shop. See boat upholstery and boat covers and canvas.
City businesses and fleets
Restaurants with split booth seats, gyms with torn benches, medical and dental offices with worn exam tables and chairs, theaters, schools, and offices: we repair and recover them, usually for far less than replacement. We also repair seats for fleet trucks, utility vehicles, police and municipal vehicles, and equipment. See commercial upholstery and fleet seat repair.
Getting here from the city
- From the Southwest Side: take Cicero Avenue south. It runs directly to our shop.
- From the North Side or downtown: most customers use I-55 to the Tri-State (I-294) or come down Cicero. Check live traffic before you leave.
- From the far South Side (Beverly, Mount Greenwood, Morgan Park): we're a short drive west.
We're open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. For convertible tops, plan to drop the car off, because installation isn't a same-day job. Smaller repairs usually take much less time.
Why city drivers make the trip
- Since 1977: almost five decades of convertible and trim work in one place.
- One shop for car, boat, and business: tops, seats, headliners, boat cushions, canvas, commercial pieces, and fleet seats.
- Material on hand: over 1,000 cloth and vinyl material types in stock for interior work.
- Free, no-obligation estimates, including estimates from photos.
Insurance and vandalism estimates
If your top was cut, slashed, or damaged in an accident, we can provide a written estimate for your insurance company. Take photos of the damage as soon as you can, and avoid driving in the rain with an open cut, since water can damage the interior.
Send photos first
City customers save a trip by sending photos first. For a convertible, send the top, the rear window, and the damage. For seats or headliners, send a wide shot and a close-up. Include your year, make, and model.

Frequently asked questions
Where is Don's located relative to the city?
We're at 11937 S. Cicero Ave in Alsip, just southwest of Chicago's far South Side. Cicero Avenue runs straight down from the city's Southwest Side to our shop, and the Tri-State (I-294) is close by.
My top was slashed while parked on the street. Can you fix it?
Often, yes. A clean cut can sometimes be repaired if the rest of the top is in good shape. If the top is older or the damage is extensive, replacement may be the better option. Send us a photo and we'll tell you.
Do you work with city businesses?
Yes. We handle commercial upholstery for gyms, medical and dental offices, restaurants, theaters, and offices, plus fleet seat repair. B2B partners receive discounted rates.
