Fleet, Truck, and Equipment Seat Repair
A fleet vehicle with a torn seat isn't just cosmetic. Exposed foam and springs wear out faster, drivers complain, and in some cases a damaged seat or frame is a safety problem. Don's Auto Interiors & Tops has served Chicago's commercial transportation, construction, industrial, and public-sector customers for decades from our shop in Alsip.

Why work seats fail and how we build them back
Work vehicles get used differently than personal cars. Drivers get in and out dozens of times a day, often with tool belts, radios, and duty gear. Equipment seats sit outside in the rain and sun. Police and utility seats get side-loaded on the bolster every time someone climbs in.
That's why a cheap slip-on cover rarely lasts. When we rebuild a work seat, we:
- Strip it down and inspect the foam, frame, and mounting points.
- Repair the frame if it's cracked or bent, welding where needed.
- Replace or rebuild the foam that's broken down.
- Recover it in a material made for the job: heavy-duty vinyl for most work seats, matched to the original where appearance matters.
Keeping vehicles in service
Downtime is the real cost of fleet repairs. To keep it low:
- Send photos first. A quick photo of each seat lets us quote and order material before the vehicle arrives.
- Batch your work. If you have several vehicles with worn seats, we can schedule them back to back.
- Bring just the seat when possible. For some vehicles and equipment, the seat can be pulled and dropped off while the vehicle stays in service with a spare.
Materials on hand
Our 3,000+ square foot facility stocks over 1,000 cloth and vinyl material types, so many repairs don't need to wait for special-order material.
Working with fleet managers and agencies
We're set up to work with businesses and public agencies:
- B2B rates for commercial partners
- Estimates from photos and seat counts
- Clear documentation of what was done on each unit
If you need us set up as a vendor in your purchasing system, call and we'll walk through what you need from us.
Also for commercial facilities
The same shop handles gym equipment, medical tables, restaurant booths, and custom covers and tarps. See commercial upholstery.
Signs a work seat needs attention
- Exposed foam or springs. Foam breaks down fast once the cover is open.
- Seat that rocks or shifts. That can mean a cracked frame, loose mounts, or worn track assemblies.
- Flattened cushion. Drivers sit lower and take more vibration, which shows up as fatigue and complaints.
- Broken recliner or adjuster. Drivers can't adjust properly for the shift.
- Torn carpet or mats that create trip hazards in the cab.
Catching a cover tear early often means a panel repair. Waiting until the foam and frame are damaged turns it into a rebuild.
