Auto Upholstery and Car Seat Repair

The driver's seat takes more abuse than any other part of a car. Every time you slide in, the outer bolster gets dragged and pressed, and after a few years the leather cracks or the cloth wears through. Don's Auto Interiors & Tops has been repairing and rebuilding car interiors in Alsip since 1977. That includes everyday commuters, work trucks, and full classic restorations.

Seat repair and replacement

Car seats aren't one piece of material. They're made of separate panels sewn together. That matters, because it means a torn bolster or a burned insert can usually be fixed without recovering the whole seat.

We handle:

Matching your interior

A repair only looks right if the material matches. We keep over 1,000 cloth and vinyl material types in stock and can source OEM-match leather for many vehicles. At your estimate we'll put samples next to your seat in daylight so you can see the match before we start.

If you'd rather change the look, we can do that too. Popular choices include suede or contrasting inserts, two-tone leather, or switching a cloth interior to leather.

Comfort upgrades while the seat is apart

Once a seat is stripped down, adding features costs much less than it would on its own. We install:

Carpet, headliners, and the rest of the cabin

Upholstery doesn't stop at the seats. We also replace auto carpet (custom-made or factory-molded sets), door panel inserts, armrests and consoles, and headliners and visors. If your car needs more than one thing, we can quote it all together and do it in one visit.

Custom and classic interiors

For restorations and custom builds, we can design a full interior with you. We'll talk through the theme, material, stitching, budget, and timeline. On classic cars we can strip the original interior, make new patterns, restore frames and springs, and build the interior from scratch. We work with stock restorations and custom builds alike.

Who we work for

How it works

  1. Free estimate. Call (708) 371-8020 or send photos through our contact page. Close-ups of the damage plus one wide shot of the seat help us a lot.
  2. Material choice. We'll show you matches or upgrade options.
  3. Scheduling. Seat repairs usually take less time than full recovers. Larger jobs and full interiors are scheduled with a timeline up front.
  4. Pickup. We'll walk you through the work and any care tips for the material.

Repair vs. replace: a quick rule of thumb

If the damage is limited to one or two panels and the foam underneath is still supportive, panel repair is almost always the better value. If the foam has collapsed, the frame is broken, or several panels are cracking, a full recover with new foam will last longer. We'll show you what we find once we look at the seat.

Frequently asked questions

Do I have to replace the whole seat cover if only one panel is torn?

Usually not. Car seats are built from separate panels, so we can often replace just the damaged panel, like a driver's side bolster, and match it to the rest of the seat.

Can you match my factory leather or cloth?

We keep over 1,000 cloth and vinyl material types in stock and can source OEM-match leather for many vehicles. At the estimate we'll show you the closest matches for your interior.

Can you install seat heaters or lumbar support?

Yes. When a seat is apart for upholstery work, it's a good time to add seat heaters or an adjustable lumbar support. We install both.

Do you do full custom or classic car interiors?

Yes. We design and build partial and full custom interiors, including complete restorations where we pattern and build the interior from scratch.
