Dental Chair, Exam Table, and Chiropractic Table Upholstery
In a medical, dental, or chiropractic office, upholstery isn't just about looks. A cracked exam table or a split dental chair cushion is harder to clean properly and gives patients the wrong impression. The good news is that the expensive part of the equipment usually isn't the problem. Don's Auto Interiors & Tops reupholsters clinical seating and tables from our Alsip shop. It's part of the commercial work we've done alongside our auto and marine upholstery.
Equipment we reupholster
- Dental chairs: seat, back, headrest, and arm cushions
- Exam tables: table tops and step pads
- Chiropractic tables
- Treatment and procedure chairs
- Waiting room and office seating
Why reupholster instead of replace
Clinical equipment is built around expensive bases, lifts, and mechanisms that often last much longer than the upholstery. When the vinyl cracks or the foam flattens, replacing the whole unit means paying for parts that still work. Reupholstering replaces only what's worn: the cover, and the foam if needed. It keeps reliable equipment in service.
When it's time
- Cracks or splits in the vinyl, even small ones, because cracks are hard to clean and let moisture reach the foam
- Peeling or flaking surfaces after years of disinfecting
- Flattened foam that makes the table or chair uncomfortable
- Stains or discoloration that won't clean up
- A remodel or rebrand where you want the equipment to match new colors
Choosing materials for clinical use
Surfaces in exam rooms and operatories are wiped down constantly. For those, we generally recommend vinyl designed to tolerate frequent cleaning. When you contact us, let us know:
- Which disinfectants and cleaners your staff uses
- Whether you want to match existing colors or change them
- Which pieces get the heaviest use
For waiting rooms and private offices, where comfort and appearance matter more than constant disinfection, there are more fabric and color options.
Minimizing downtime
We understand you can't lose a treatment room for long. To keep your schedule intact:
- Removable cushions and pads (dental chair cushions, exam table tops, headrests) can often come to our shop while the base stays in place.
- Staggered scheduling lets us do one room or one chair at a time.
- Photos first: send pictures so we can quote and have material ready before any piece comes out of service.
Offices of all sizes
We work with single-practitioner offices and multi-room practices alike. If you have several chairs or tables, we'll put together one estimate with a schedule. B2B partners receive discounted rates.
What to send for a quote
- Photos of each piece, wide and close-up
- The equipment make and model if you have it
- How many pieces need work
- Your timeline and any days the office is closed
Other commercial work
The same shop handles gym equipment, restaurant booths, theater seating, school and office chairs, and custom covers. See commercial upholstery and gym equipment upholstery.
Why small cracks matter in clinical settings
In a waiting room, a small crack is cosmetic. In an exam room or operatory, a crack in the upholstery is a place where moisture and contaminants can reach the foam, and foam can't be properly disinfected. That's one reason many practices recover pieces as soon as damage appears rather than waiting for a full refresh. A single cushion or table top is a quick job, especially when it can be removed and brought to our shop.
Coordinating with a remodel
If your office is planning a remodel or new color scheme, reupholstering existing equipment to match can be a big part of the refresh at a fraction of the cost of new furniture. Send us your new color palette and we'll show you options from our stock of over 1,000 cloth and vinyl material types.

Frequently asked questions
Is it worth reupholstering a dental chair instead of replacing it?
In many cases, yes. The chair's base and mechanics are usually the expensive part and often still work well. Replacing the upholstery restores appearance and cleanability for far less than new equipment.
Can you work on our schedule?
Yes. Many cushions and pads can be removed and brought to our shop, and we'll plan the work around your patient schedule so you're not short on rooms.
What material do you recommend for clinical use?
For surfaces that are wiped down between patients, we generally recommend vinyl made for frequent cleaning. Tell us which disinfectants you use and we'll take that into account.
