Motorcycle Seat Reupholstery and Custom Seats
If you ride, you know a bad seat can ruin a good ride. Factory seats are built for an average rider, and after a few seasons the cover cracks, the seams split, and the foam packs down. Don's Auto Interiors & Tops recovers, rebuilds, and custom-builds motorcycle seats at our Alsip shop. It's the same shop that's been doing auto and marine upholstery since 1977.
What we do
- Motorcycle seat replacement and recovering
- Custom seat design and development
- Size adjustment and padding customization
- Foam firmness adjustment, softer or firmer
- Recovering in leather, vinyl, or suede
- Aftermarket seat modification
- Custom color and stitch patterns
Comfort: foam is everything
Most comfort problems are foam problems. Over time, foam compresses where you sit and the seat starts to feel hard or tilts you forward. We can:
- Rebuild packed-down foam so the seat supports you again
- Make the seat firmer or softer to suit you
- Reshape the seat so your weight sits further back, or give you more support at the base of your back
- Adjust height and width within the limits of the seat pan
Tell us how you ride: short trips around town, long highway days, riding two-up. We'll suggest changes that fit your riding.
Covers built for weather
A motorcycle seat sits outside in rain, freezing nights, and summer heat. We pick materials and construction to hold up to moisture, cold, and heat so you're not back in two seasons with cracked vinyl.
- Vinyl is tough, weather-resistant, and easy to clean. It's a great choice for bikes that live outside.
- Leather looks and feels premium but needs more care.
- Suede inserts add grip and style, usually paired with a weather-resistant material elsewhere.
Make it yours
Custom seats are where riders have fun. Popular choices include:
- Diamond, pleated, or channel stitching
- Contrasting thread colors
- Two-tone covers
- Matching a seat to a custom paint job or to saddlebags
Aftermarket seats
If you bought an aftermarket seat that isn't quite right (too firm, too tall, wrong look), we can modify it rather than having you start over.
Timing
Seats are easiest to schedule in the off-season. Bring your seat in over the winter and it'll be ready when riding season starts. During the season, we'll give you a realistic turnaround when you call.
How a seat rebuild works
- Tell us what's wrong. Is the seat cracked, uncomfortable, too tall, or just not your style? Photos plus a description of your riding help.
- Strip it down. We remove the old cover and inspect the foam and seat pan.
- Shape the foam. Repair, replace, or reshape it based on what you want: firmer, softer, lower, or more support.
- Pattern and sew the cover in your choice of material, color, and stitching.
- Fit it to the pan so the cover is tight and wrinkle-free, and check it against the bike.
Signs your seat needs work
- Cracks or splits in the cover, especially along the front edge and seams
- Water soaking into the foam after rain
- A seat that feels hard or slopes you forward after an hour of riding
- Numbness or pressure points on longer rides
- A cover that's faded or no longer matches the bike
Small cracks let water into the foam, which then breaks down faster. Recovering early can save the foam underneath.
Drop off your seat
Most seats come off with a few bolts, so you can usually bring just the seat. Don's Auto Interiors & Tops is at 11937 S. Cicero Ave, Alsip, IL 60803, open Monday through Friday, 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. Riders come to us from across the south and southwest suburbs, including Orland Park and Tinley Park.

Frequently asked questions
Can you make my motorcycle seat more comfortable?
Yes. We can adjust foam firmness, add or remove padding, and reshape the seat so it fits you better on longer rides.
Can you lower my seat?
Size adjustment is one of the services we offer. How much we can change depends on the seat pan and foam. Bring the seat in and we'll tell you what's realistic.
What materials can you use?
Leather, vinyl, or suede, in custom colors with custom stitch patterns.
Do I need to bring the whole bike?
Usually not. Most motorcycle seats come off easily, so you can just drop off the seat.
